Imagine 1,000,000 tons of a half-mile long, person-less freight train barreling down the track at full throttle with 8 cars of highly flammable, extremely toxic, hazardous material that can blow a town of 12,000 residents off the map. How do you stop something like THAT???!!! The subject of this movie was enough to capture my attention because of my odd interest in ‘What Does a Train Engineer do on a daily basis?’ and my 2yr. old son’s interest in ‘Choo Choo.’ Two freight train operators, Denzel and The Other Guy, are going about a day of training when they find themselves on the same track, heading directly toward this missile of a runaway train. The events that ensue from that point onward are nothing less than GRIPPING! Watching this movie really made me appreciate the power for 1 Million Tons 0f mostly all-metal, moving parts! What and/or Who has the GUTS to get in front of that??!! Gonna have to go see the movie for more details. :p However, I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed this tasteful action film, as it was very well done with sustenance and with a new light.

I personally give it a 4/5 stars

Finally, a mix tape that exist that you can listen to ALL THE WAY through and then repeat it! Small Talk Music Group’s St. Louis-based Battle Rapper and N.A.I.R.E BOY, Jesse James has released this seasons Hottest Freshest Mixtape! On Jesse James’ MTV2, he incorporates intellect, sense-of-humor, realness, and Street. He creates diverse rhythmic rap patterns that are sophisticatedly tailored to each beat. Lyrically this Mix Tape is Street and Witty. You can tell that this Rapper isn’t just some ‘Dumb Ass MuhFuckah’. His voice has a nice deep raspiness that offers a delivery that is certainly charismatic and clean. Jesse James and AudioKush don’t slack on the Beats. Every beat is designed to ‘Ride & Bump To’. You will not want to skip to the next track because his lyrics and beats will have you saying “Damn, This Shit is Tiiiight” . Download and Comment on the Mix Tape for Free @ http://stlmixtapes.com/2010/10/jesse-mtv2/ and follow him on Twitter (@Stmg_Jesse). We can’t wait until the Spring Mix Tape ‘ESPN’, but in the meantime we’re gonna let MTV2 Bang!

Have you ever met the COOLEST Minneapolite in the Twin Cities? I have! Her name is Michelle Havens. From personality, style, taste, artistry, and retail buying knowhow, she’s GOT IT! …Plus: she is personally responsible for the success of high-end boutiques such as Warehouse Districts’ Inside Design (interior decorating firm/store) and Martin Patrick3 (the best gentlemen’s boutique in the country, in my opinion). Both of these stores, I am sure, miss her very much and are thriving because of her ‘coolness.’ Don’t just take my word for it. You are going to have to meet her, yourself. Luckily for you, she is hosting ‘PERSPECTIVES,’ a showcase of 20+ local artists on Sunday Nov. 14 from 12pm-4pm at Local D’Lish – 208 1st St No. in Minneapolis. Because I know her impeccable taste, I am super excited to meet the people she considers worthy of her show. They MUST be awesome. She asked Small Talk T-shirts to be in it, and we are so honored! Michelle is so versatile, that she left her buyer position to pursue a business venture in luxury gift wrapping! Her work is so immaculate, the gift wrapping itself is sometimes more valuable than the gift, but worth every penny. When you come to the show, you will spot Michelle right away. She’ll probably be surrounded by 3 or 4 people being entertained by some of her quirky antics or stories. She has this strange ability to make you feel ‘hip’ and comfortable in her presence.

Thank you, Michelle

What do you call a venue that is an art space, club space, a dance workshop space, a performance space, a business meeting space, a historic space, and an eco-friendly space all wrapped into one? Give up? Roosevelt 2.0. Until recently, this venue was an abandoned building that Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders one used to tie up their horses. R2.0 is located in the heart of Ybor City, infamous party district in Tampa, Florida. The building has thankfully been rescued and revitalized by Rudy L. Arnauts (20-year veteran real estate developer), Bryan Roberts (Music Recording Specialist turned eco-friendly building developer expert), and Efren Rebugio Jr. (entreprenuer, graphic designer, and skater dude). Their vision is to not only transform this neglected, historic space into a creative space for all to share, but also to transform the way people do business with their pioneering of the ’transparent cost’ pricing model.
Let’s start by describing the space. Bryan Roberts aka ‘GREEN MACGYVER’ is heading up the eco-friendly renovations. He explained that this building was so far in shambles that when it rained, it would also rain inside the building. Not anymore! He has replaced the roof with a soy-based material that is completely waterproof and performs just as good, if not better, than any standard roof. He also has plans to build a hydroponic garden that will expand across the roof. If one big garden isn’t enough, they are developing an indoor vertical garden that will rise from the ground floor up the wall, 2-stories to the roof. The verticle garden will be complete with herbs and tea leaves that they are going to use for their beverages at the bar, that is nourished by a rain water drainage system. If that’s not green enough for you, the AC unit harvests the humidity pulled from the air and the collected moisture is used for their tap water and to flush the toilets. GOD DAMN, that’s Green as Hell Bryan Roberts is also the Captain of Project: ‘Earth Ship’. That’s a whole other blog post/article of its own. Check out his site for the skinny on that. www.eco-techconstruction.com
Rudy, a big, buff business man, is definitely a visionary if I’ve ever met one. Owner of www.thecampus.tv, he breaks it down to me a bit on how the business model works. The keyword is ‘transparency’. He said any and every deal that is made will be posted on their website, final price included. His intent is to provide a way to keep everything fair and balanced. It is a way to build trust with your community and begin a perpetual cycle of business and community. The R2.0 team wants to take commerce out of the mainstream, failing monetary system and they are keeping their resources local by adopting a barter and sponsorship way of conducting much of their business. This approach as been very successful, as they have invested $0 in this project so far. That’s right… I said it… $0.00! Efren seems to bring out the artistic side of the trio with a background in graphic design. He owns a clothing company called Seren. He re-iterates that the purpose of R2.0 is to be a creative space and a space that fosters creativity, not only in the arts, but for business purpose, since they already have focus groups utilize their space. Efren and I discussed the possibility of hosting adult Hip Hop Dance Lessons at R2.0, something that is surprisingly lacking in the Tampa Bay community. The only thing it needs are some mirrors, but Efren recommended a brilliant idea of having portable mirrors, which is a great way to reflect all that creative energy living within the walls of R2.0.

These guys have set out to do something inspirational, innovative, and world changing. They are really onto something or just ON something… and either way, I want SOME!

Jae Haile’-CHO

Thank the Highest Power for Moh…owner of brand new boutique/Art Gallery for his innovative vision, StudiiYo23. This Spot is a fusion of Urban, Athletic, Hip Apparel, a Local Art Gallery, a Music/DJ venue and of course, a Shoe Store. StudiiYo23 is most noted for their extensive, exclusive collection of Air Jordans. Moh, an Air Jordan Extraordinaire, has his own collection of close to 150 pairs, many of which are cleverly and artistically showcased throughout his Uptown shop. Moh has traveled far and wide to augment his ever growing collection. He has only actually worn just over 20 pairs out of the 150 pair collection. So, most of the Air Jordans are in mint condition, enough to classify this place as Minnesota’s first and only Air Jordan Museum. Having been open for only a few of weeks, StudiiYo23 has made an impression nationwide. They are already shipping and receiving orders for these exclusive Air Jordans nationwide. While I was there visiting, another avid Air Jordan collector, who owns over 300 pairs himself, had travelled from Cleveland and stopped in the store because of Studiiyo23′s major presence on the ’Nike Talk’ blog. What’s more, Michael Jordan is in the Twin Cities tonight and who knows? He may get a chance to see that his brand is being represented the right way…on the next level.
